ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR REGISTRATION OF ACCESS TO GENETIC HERITAGE AND ASSOCIATED TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE WILL BE AVAILABLE SHORTLY
The Brazilian Genetic Heritage Management Council (CGen) issued Ordinance 01/2017 dated October 13th 2017 which states that the electronic system for the registration of access to genetic heritage and associated traditional knowledge (SisGen) will be officially available in the following link from November 6th 2017: see more
The Biodiversity Law (Law 13.123/2015) implemented the creation of an electronic registration system avoiding the previous approval process. Therefore, people interested in conducting activities using genetic heritage and associated traditional knowledge must now simply carry out the electronic registration.
Prior electronic registration is necessary for activities entailing research or technological developments on a sample of using genetic heritage or associated traditional knowledge, or sending samples abroad. In these cases, registration must precede filing an application for intellectual property rights, the publication of scientific data, the sale of a finished or unfinished product or the remittance of samples.
