SUPERINTENDENCE OF INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH CRAFTS OF COLOMBIA TO SUPPORT ARTISANS IN INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY ISSUES
On November 1st 2017, the Colombian Trademark Office and Artesanias de Colombia signed a new agreement with the purpose of protecting the industrial property of artisans in the country.
The agreement brings special benefits in regards to the registration fees for industrial designs, distinctive signs, collective trademarks, among others, providing the facilitation of procedures and the provision of advice and support.
Among the agreed benefits, an artisan can register products made in different classes, under the same brand, for the same price, which is called the “Multibrand” option.
Likewise, there is a chapter included in regards to Industrial Designs, which seeks to promote the exclusive use of certain lines, contours, colors and shapes so that artisans can identify more easily what they want to protect.
This agreement will be in force for two years.
