MEXICO (INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION)
TRADEMARK LICENSES ARE PROTECTED INVESTMENTS
An arbitral award of the tire manufacturer Bridgestone Licensing Services c. Panama was issued by the arbitrators Nicolas Phillips, Horacio Grigera Neon and Cristopher Thomas on January 4th 2018, ruling that trademark licenses are protected investments provided that their commercial exploitation is sought.
The dispute arose after the Supreme Court of Panama set a fine of 5.4 million dollars to Bridgestone upon considering that its opposition against the registration of trademark Riverstone filed in the name of the tire company Muresa was filed in bad faith.
