55% OF PATENT APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED IN COLOMBIA ARE GRANTED
The Colombian Patent Office – The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce – has increased considerably the percentage of patent applications granted in the country. For 2016 – 2017, 55% of the filed patent applications were granted, 25% more than those granted in 2006 – 2009, where only 30% of the filed patent applications were granted
Finding that, for the years 2016 – 2017, a large number of patents were granted in the sectors of biotechnology (56%), electricity, electronics and IT (57%), mechanical elements (65%), pharmaceutical products (50%) ), chemical products (55%) and chemical processes (44%).
All of these correspond to significant increases with respect to previous periods where for the percentage of concession oscillated between 6% and 50% in all the technological sectors for period of 2006 – 2009, and between 32% and 55% for period 2010 -2015, in all fields of technology.
