Throughout history, the practice of law has experienced many changes, developments, challenges and contributions, putting the adaptability, ethics and strategic thinking of law firms to the test. Keeping that in mind, Posse Herrera Ruiz has dedicated more than two decades to the progress of law and its several practice areas; the improvement of the firm, treasuring its independence and its deep convictions; and the growth of Colombia.

In 1980

León Posse Arboleda, together with other lawyers, created a law firm that he called L. Posse y Cía. based on the office founded by his father Pedro Posse Camargo in 1927.

With the death of León Posse Arboleda, his children Mariana and Daniel Posse took over the leadership and where later joined by Jaime Herrera in 1996, creating Posse Herrera Posse and transitioning to the firm into something beyond a family business.

With the involvement of Jose Alejandro Torres and Alvaro Jose Rodriguez, the firm concentrated its efforts in cases focused on dispute resolution, advisory services for the financial sector, the development of power generation projects and mergers and acquisitions.

In 1997

Juan Guillermo Ruiz, a specialist in tax law, joined the firm in 1997 to direct the tax practice within the organization.  His arrival gives rise to Posse Herrera Ruiz.

It has established itself as a leading full-service law firm characterized by the high quality of the service and solutions provided that have allowed our clients to fulfill their goals and solve their legal problems.

Added to these efforts is the arrival of Francisco Urrutia Montoya, who made it possible to consolidate the multidisciplinary approach by increasing participation in mining and energy projects and environmental law. Likewise, his strategic vision increased Posse Herrera Ruiz cross borders positioning by entering into the most prestigious international networks.

Posse Herrera Ruiz´s commitment to excellent service accelerated the firm´s growth. To be able to better service its clients, the Medellin and Barranquilla offices were opened, allowing for better national coverage. The incorporation of new practice areas such as infrastructure, real estate, labor law, competition and consumer protection law, and intellectual property, among others, consolidated the portfolio of services provided and allowed the firm to become true strategic allies for companies in all sectors including insurance, retail, telecommunications, energy, financial services and pharmaceuticals.

Today, Posse Herrera Ruiz is recognized internationally for its expertise, negotiation skills, handling of complex transactions, and excellence in customer service. This has earned it important recognitions from specialized publications like Chambers and Partners, who has awarded the firm with their Law Firm of the Year and Service Awards on several occasions, making it one of the most recognized law firms in the country.  Other publications such as Latin Lawyer, IFLR 1000, Legal 500, Who´sWho Legal, Best Laywers and Leaders League have also bestowed their recognition to the firm.

Upon reaching its 25th anniversary and thanks to its solidity, experience and vision, Posse Herrera Ruiz has got 23 partners in 20 practice areas and more than 240 employees who honor the commitment of its founders to be a firm of and for people, founded in teamwork and with a leading value proposition in the Colombian legal market.
